Those obstacles (excuses) are just life.

We hear it almost everyday from people.

I'll just do X (start training, get my steps up, create new habits around nutrition etc) when everything calms down and I'm less busy.

This is from an exercise and wellness perspective but there are other ways this shows up too.

I went through a period where I convinced myself that the only viable way of getting good quality work done was to be in my office with total silence and no distractions.

Last week my mum and nephew came in and distracted my flow.

My instinctive reaction to think 'well that's annoying' was very quickly replaced by a realisation of how lucky I am to have a life where that is my distraction/struggle.

Weddings, holidays and busy periods at work are some of the common reasons we hear for why people delay making change.

I don't know about you but I intend to have a life where I always have these things going on.

I want as many exciting and social things as I can have alongside work that challenges me and family I can spend time with.

So by using that as a reason to delay starting you are effectively wishing for your life to be worse (in a social/relational setting) before making a change.

These 'obstacles' are actually just life.

This also has a second order issue whereby any 'success' we may achieve is conditional on not having a lot going on.

Does this mean when life gets busy with exciting things again we are just going to let our health and fitness fall by the wayside?

Start when it's hard.

Start when the timing is wrong.

Start when you're tired.

But whatever you do just start!
