We are right in the mix of our 6 week shred.
This is an in-house programme for members who need a bit more guidance with their nutrition and lifestyle habits and want to improve body composition.
After working with 1000s of people over the last 8 years there is something that consistently let's people down...
Breakfast.
In the UK we are so accustomed to having cereal, toast, granola or pastries for breakfast that anything different is deemed 'crazy'.
In general we see the following trends causing people to struggle with their nutrition:
-Not eating enough protein.
-Snacking late at night.
-Having a mid-morning or mid-afternoon 'crash'.
Many of these issues stem either directly or indirectly from our breakfast choices.
Cereal, toast, pastries and other breakfasts generally have very little in the way of protein. This means that it's an uphill battle to hit our protein target as we are effectively sacrificing a full meal in protein terms!
Having a high sugar and low protein start to the day can spike blood sugar which can cause this 'crash'.
We also find if we have a breakfast choice that doesn't fill us up (as these can be) that it causes hunger later at night, thus causing us to overeat.
So, what do we have instead?
I tend to build my breakfasts from 3 sources:
-Meat/Fish/Alternative.
Smoked salmon, eggs, tofu.
-Yogurt/Protein supplement.
Looking at things like greek yogurt or high protein pouches.
-Eggs.
Scrambled egg, omlette, poached egg etc.
If you use this as your breakfast base you won't go far wrong!
You can also have these alongside the more traditional breakfasts. For example you may have eggs on toast or porridge with protein powder!
